TEFL Jobs for Life Changers

Stories from Career Breakers Teaching English Abroad

If you find yourself staring at the clock, wishing away your weekdays and waiting desperately for the weekend, maybe it’s time for a little time away from the 9 to 5! By taking a TEFL course you’ll open up a world of opportunities to teach English abroad: you’ll get to travel, meet interesting people and get rid of those ‘there’s got to be more to life than this’ blues!

Adrian's Story

"I decided to teach English because I wanted a career change and have always been interested in languages. I previously worked for several years in journalism, market research, marketing and communications. In France since 2001.

"I found work quite easily, first as a part-time teacher then full time with a business English and communications company (ICB Europe in Paris).

"I spent a few months teaching children from 7 to 17 years old. I currently teach executives in large French companies, including telephone, individual and group classes.

"All my students are motivated, enthusiastic and ready to learn. They can also be quite demanding.

"I particularly enjoy seeing a student's progress over time. It is a stimulating job and I learn a lot from the students abut their jobs and the sectors they work in. I also improve my French.

"I'd give the experience 8 out of 10 because it is a varied and stimulating job and does not involve sitting at a desk all the time or doing the same thing.

"My advice to would-be English teachers in France would be to get a TEFL qualification, it helps enormously. Also, make sure you know what the going rate for teachers is and don't work for too little."
