What Happens Before You Arrive in China?
If you're not already qualified, i-to-i can provide you with 140 hours of TEFL training to make sure you’re prepared for your first day in the classroom. You’ll get:
- 140 hours of comprehensive TEFL training. This includes 120 hours of interactive online TEFL training and 20 hours of practical, face-to-face training in Beijing before your internship starts!
- Expert tutor advice and tips from the i-to-i TEFL team
- Instructions on how to complete your application for the TTC program
Once you’ve sent your application form and documentation through to TTC, they’ll work with you directly to organise your internship placement, sort your visa and make sure you have all the information you need to arrive in China full of confidence and ready to teach!
What Do You Get in China?
A reputable internship set up for you. Contract lengths are usually four and a half to five months, depending on the semester time.
- You’ll gain 10-15 hours of face-to-face teaching experience a week Keep in mind, your visa will be valid for six months if you want to travel through China afterwards
- More than enough spending money to enjoy your free time Monthly payments of 2,000RMB (€213) + 2,500 RMB (€267) bonus at the end
- Free accommodation + most living expenses Private bedroom + all meals Mon – Friday
- 24/7 in-country support + local support Airport pickup and transfers, orientation with your fellow interns, local liaison to help you get settled: you’ll get ongoing support from day one
- An introduction to China and the internship Orientation + contract signing + free time + optional/inclusive activities already set up for you: it’s your chance to mingle with other interns and completely immerse yourself in the Chinese lifestyle and culture
- A network of new friends and colleagues. You’ll be joined by interns from the US, UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. You’ll also definitely be placed with at least one other intern, so you won’t be on your own – unless you really want to be of course!
What Do You Need to Do the Internship?
You’ll need to:
- Be able to arrive in China on August 15th 2012 and stay for approximately five months
- Be a native English speaker
- Have completed high school/secondary school
- Be 18 years old or older
- Hold an Irish, British, American, Canadian, Australian or New Zealand passport
- Complete your 140 Hour Combined TEFL Course before July 15th 2012, so make sure you apply and gain access to your course and leave enough time to complete it.
What you don’t need
- You don’t need to speak Chinese. As an English teacher, the best thing you can do is completely expose your students to the English language, so there’s no need to be able to speak Chinese.
- No previous teaching experience or a university degree is necessary.
